Citing an example of personal choices based on his wife’s determination to don the hijab (tudung) after they got married, former Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim welcomed stewardesses being given the option to choose whether they want to wear the hijab or not, while stating things should also work in reverse.
This was said in light of suggestions that has been put forth by various quarters, namely Umno Youth to give stewardesses the option of donning the hijab in the run up to Khazanah Nasional announcing their restructuring plan today for the ailing national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS).
Stating that while he tried to dissuade his wife from wearing the hijab on the grounds that “beauty is God’s gift to mankind — why hide it”, Zaid, however, noted that people living in a free country must be given the freedom to choose.
